It predictably responds with a wound response, which is to produce new supplies of collagen to “heal” the wound (even though there isn’t one). Since collagen provides the structural framework that keeps our skin firm and tight, new collagen production helps to tighten the skin on the treatment area where the fat has just been removed. One other benefit of combining laser energy with this procedure is that the laser coagulates the blood vessels while it is melting the fat. This dramatically reduces bleeding and the subsequent bruising it creates. How Is The Laser Liposuction Session Done? Laser liposuction with Dr. Jensen is an outpatient procedure. He first injects the target area with a tumescent solution consisting of small amounts of epinephrine, lidocaine, and saline. This solution numbs the area and constricts the bloods vessels to minimize bleeding. Next, Dr. Jensen makes one or more tiny incisions through which he can insert the laser and then the cannula. A thin wire delivering the medical-grade laser energy is inserted first and is moved around so that the laser energy can directly contact the fat cells, rupturing their cells walls. This energy will also tighten the skin in the weeks following your treatment. Next, the cannula is inserted through the same incision and the liquefied fat and tumescent solution is suctioned out. Any remaining melted fat or tumescent solution is absorbed and removed by the body. The PicoSure laser is part of Dr. Jensen’s commitment to staying on the cutting edge of technology. This is a new type of laser, a short-pulse laser. These lasers deliver their energy in incredibly quick, short bursts, just trillionths of a second. By delivering such quick, short flashes of energy, this minimizes the amount of heat and creates a photomechanical effect in the skin. This improves pigment problems and improves various types of scars and skin blemishes. Less heat means less tissue damage and discomfort for the patient. How Is The PicoSure Laser Used? The PicoSure laser has two processes that we utilize. For pigmentation issues, such as birthmarks and sun spots, the PicoSure laser delivers its energy so rapidly that the tiny particles that make up the darker pigmentation vibrate and break down. It rapidly heats the pigment, but doesn’t deliver heat for a long enough period to damage the adjacent skin. The body then sheds this pigmented skin cells. How Does The Laser Work? For skin revitalization, the PicoSure laser technology triggers the body’s natural healing processes to restore areas of acne scarring, fine wrinkles, and stretch marks. The laser uses what is known as proprietary “Focus lens” technology. This technology converts the laser energy into gentle pressure waves. Avoid shaving, waxing, or exfoliating for a week or so before your appointment, as well. Avoid taking aspirin, certain anti-inflammatory medications, or herbal medications that can cause increased bleeding. Is Skin Revitalization Procedures Painful Skin revitalization procedures with the PicoSure laser have a similar feeling to the snapping of a rubber band on the skin. The pulse of energy is so brief that skin damage from heat is basically non-existent. When Will I See Results?   Offered In Our Clinton, UT Location Patients of Dr. Jensen are looking for natural-looking results that endure. That’s the problem with dermal fillers — they only last a year or so in most cases. Fat transfer has always provided a long-lasting solution, but the amount of fat that successfully “takes” can vary wildly, making for inconsistent results. To change that problem, Dr. Jensen is proud to add the BeautiFill™ Laser from Alma Lasers to his Layton practice. BeautiFill™ combines liposuction, skin tightening, and highly successful fat transfer. What Is BeautiFill™? BeautiFill™ is a laser-based system that combines liposuction, skin tightening, and fat grafting into a single convenient appointment. BeautiFill™ uses a proprietary laser system engineered to loosen and harvest live fat cells from common problem areas such as the abdomen, hips, flanks, and thighs. This fat is then re-injected into areas where volume loss has occurred, such as the cheeks. The problem with fat transfer/grafting has always been the viability of the fat. In clinical studies, BeautiFill™ reported amazing success rates, an average of 95 percent successful fat survival. This contrasts with typical fat transfer success rates in the 60-70 percent range. That has always been what has held back fat transfer — the inconsistency of results. That has changed with BeautiFill™. The third aspect of BeautiFill is skin tightening. When the laser energy is used to make the fat easier to remove during the liposuction procedure, it triggers a wound response under the skin. The body thinks it has been wounded and responds by producing new collagen and elastin, which tightens and improves the skin. So, once the fat is removed, the skin also tightens down thanks to the laser energy. How Does BeautiFill™ Work? BeautiFill™ is a simple in-office procedure with Dr. Jensen. The patient is given local tumescent anesthesia (a mix of saline solution, lidocaine, and epinephrine) across the liposuction area, generally the abdomen, hips, flanks, or thighs. The cannula is then inserted and it delivers laser energy to gently loosen the fat cells. They are then harvested by the cannula. The laser energy has a couple different immediate benefits. First, it cauterizes blood vessels, which minimizes bleeding and subsequent bruising, hallmarks of traditional liposuction procedures. Without the trauma and bleeding, patients recovery much more quickly. The laser energy also triggers the body to remodel the existing collagen in the area and create new collagen and elastin to tighten the skin across the treated areas. The harvested fat is immediately filtered and stored in the BeautiFill™ system. The gentle laser-assisted energy combined with the fat cells being undisturbed makes for an incredibly successful rate of fat vitality. In clinical testing, BeautiFill™ achieved fat vitality rates over 95 percent. This means that the inconsistency that is a hallmark of other fat transfer procedures is not a problem with BeautiFill™. The final step is for Dr. Jensen to place the harvested, filtered fat cells into a series of smaller syringes. This fat is then injected into areas where the patient has suffered volume loss, such as the cheeks, areas around the mouth, undereye hollows, and the breasts. The BeautiFill™ Treatment These treatments deliver three results for our patients: They are body-contouring procedures, as they use liposuction to remove unwanted fat from areas such as the abdomen or the flanks. They are skin-tightening procedures, as the laser energy delivered by the cannula initiates a skin tightening response in the skin. They are fat transfer procedures, as the harvested fat is injected into areas where volume has been lost, such as the cheeks, with a very high success rate. How Long Does The BeautiFill™ Treatment Take? These treatments are very efficient. Generally, a BeautiFill™ treatment with Dr. Jensen can take just around an hour. This does depend on the areas being treated, so there can be some variation. Results Of BeautiFill™ These are permanent changes. BeautiFill’s liposuction component removes fat cells permanently. They are gone for good. Fat transfer is also considered to be permanent or very long duration. This is predicated on the fat cells acquiring a blood supply and “taking,” but as described above, the BeautiFill™ system has a 95 percent success rate of the fat establishing itself and remaining in place. The only aspect of BeautiFill™ that is not permanent is the skin-tightening component, as the increased collagen and elastin production lasts for a period of about three months. By that point, however, the skin has tightened down over the slimmer contours and should remain firmer and slimmer. BeautiFill™ Recovery Time Recovery is minimal. Because the laser-assisted cannula doesn’t have to be moved about to break loose the fat cells, there is only minimal disruption under the skin in the treatment areas.

  What Is It? Dealing with unwanted hair is such an endless chore. You shave, wax, pluck, or apply harsh depilatory creams and the hair is gone…until it’s back in two or three weeks! And then you get to repeat the whole process again. Or, you could come to Dr. Jensen’s and have us perform laser hair removal to permanently get rid of up to 90 percent of your unwanted hair. We have the training and experience that will comfortably deliver the hair removal you want for the long term. How Does It Work? The key to laser hair removal is melanin. Melanin is what gives your hair (and your skin) its color. We set the wavelength of our laser to match the melanin in your hair. The laser light is then delivered in very short pulses onto the skin and unwanted hair. The melanin in the hair absorbs the matching light energy and it instantly converts to heat. This heat then travels down the hair shaft into the follicle, where the hair is anchored and growing. The heat damages or destroys the hair follicle and the follicle is no longer able to grow hair. It’s easy to think of lasers and sci-fi movies, but the energy used for laser hair removal doesn’t harm your skin or your body. It’s been proven to be completely safe for over 30 years now, and the lasers keep getting even better. A Truly Permanent Procedure? Laser hair removal is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the U.S. every year for one reason — it works at removing hair. The FDA has approved lasers for “permanent hair reduction.” That’s because it’s almost impossible to remove every one of your unwanted hairs. Why? Two reasons. First, every one of the five million or so hairs on the average human (men have a few hundred thousand more than women) operates like an independent contractor. Each hair follicle moves in and out of the three phases of the hair growth cycle — anagen (growth), catagen (transitional), and telogen (resting). Laser energy is only effective in damaging or destroying hair follicles that are in the growth phase because the hair is actively growing and strongly anchored in the hair follicle. In the catagen and telogen phases, the hair is already on its way out as the body is in the process of shedding it. The hair is no longer receiving any nourishment from the follicle and it may have already separated from the follicle. This is why laser energy applied to hairs in these phases can’t get down into the follicle.
